History of the Fiumara Family

Pasquale (Pat) Fiumara was born in 1918 in San Ferdinando, Reggio Calabria, Italy. Searching for a better life for his family, he came to Australia leaving behind wife, Angela and children. By 1953 Pat had become a share farmer on an orchard near Leeton. In 1955 he returned to Italy and 1956 saw the family together again in Australia. By 1958 Angela was selling their produce from a small cart on the property. The cart progressed to a stall, becoming a fruit shop and milk bar and today the Golden Apple Super Store employs around 100 staff. Each of the seven sons managed parts of the business: Mick ran the liquor store, Angelo was the baker, Tony managed the fruit and vegetable section, Fred ran the grocery section, Frank was the butcher, Robert the winemaker and Sam ran the delicatessen. Pat Fiumara planted the first vines in 1972. In 1982 Robert became winemaker for Lillypilly Estate. By 2014 Robert has won over 1,200 awards for his wines.

The Fiumara label has a star with seven points representing the seven brothers. The squares represent the building blocks of the Fiumara's strong family foundation.
